Wenzel Coaching by Brian Forbes & Masters Team Meeting (Open)

Dear Swiss Memebers,

Swiss American Racing Team is proud to offer all our members the opportunity to sign up for coaching through Wenzel Coaching by Brian Forbes! Brian will be at the shop August 7th at 7pm to present his coaching plans, training philosophy and sign up new riders. A discounted $60 per month rate and NO start up fees will get you started in your personal training program designed by Brian Forbes. Monthly training plans will start as early as September 1st.

In addition, an organized masters squad has become a reality starting this fall to prepare for the 2009 road race season. We plan to tailor our training and racing towards masters races with the help of Brian Forbes. Brian will personally coach the group during organized weekly training rides, design and oversee our personal monthly training plans, and race as a coach in the masters races.

This is an opportunity for riders who want to focus on mountain or road racing. Please join us at the Swiss American Bike shop, August 7th at 7pm for more information. All Swiss members and potential Swiss members are welcome to attend.

Best Regards,

Jim Woodurne

Entry Fee $ For Swiss Members

If you want to race in the crit this week end, it will cost any Swiss member $5 for the categorized crits and $10 for the Miss and Outs.

$5 for the categorized crits (cat3, 4, 5, etc…) is to cover the insurance.  $10 for the Miss & Out is to ensure the minimum $50 gets awarded to the winner as the qualifier winnings are self generated from entry fees.

Swiss Crit/Dash For Cash Volunteers

Hi!  Woody here from Swiss.  The short and sweet version of this message is to solicit more volunteers to help during the Swiss Crit/Dash For Cash.  Listed below are the final positions we need filled:

Friday June 20th:

I need 2 more course marshals during the ever so popular 9pm-1am shift.  3 more people for scoring during the 9pm-1am.  2 more people for registration 9pm-1am.  1 runner 9pm-1am.

Saturday June 21st:

5 more course marshals, 3 during the 5pm-9pm shift and 2 during the 9pm-1am shift.  3 more scorers 9pm-1am.  1 more for registration 9pm-1am and 1 runner 5pm-9pm.

Janine has left the country to engage in some personal research involving alcohol consumption and sun tanning.  Unfortunately for the team that means I now have complete control of USS Volunteer.  God forbid, if needed, I will release my sidekick Robert with a six pack, some reds, a phone list and remind him how short he is.  Before it comes to that I can easily and quietly be reached at jrwoodburne@cox.net to pencil you in.

Craig Hamilton’s Son

Swiss American Members, Arizona Cyclist, Fellow Cycling Enthusiasts,

Craig Hamilton called to inform us that his son, William, has slipped into a coma as a result of an unknown virus. William, now 10 years old, last complained of a sore throat and other flu like symptoms three weeks ago, and with in 24 hours fell into his current state. He is now being treated at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Craig’s wife, Sylvia, quit her job to monitor William and take care of their daughter while Craig continues to work full time. Those of you unfamiliar with Craig, he is currently a cat 3 on our road team and also races masters 40+.

My wife and I went through a similar situation with our first daughter back in 1999. Only with immense support from family, friends and co-workers have we been able to survive. However the road as been difficult and it breaks my heart to hear of William’s situation.

As you can imagine William’s prognosis is unknown. Being in his current condition for three weeks doesn’t necessarily mean he will not fully recover, however, his road will undoubtedly be very difficult and full of long, steep climbs. I fear the road for Craig’s family will be quite rough during the months and years ahead. That is why I am asking for donations to go to Craig’s family to ease some of the burden they will inevitably encounter .

Listed below are some ways we have quickly set up for you to contribute to Craig and his family:

Option 1: Send donations to the Swiss American Bike Shop. Checks made to Craig Hamilton at:

Craig Hamilton

c/o Swiss American Bikes

16835 North Park Pl. #3

Glendale, AZ 85306

Option 2: Donate directly to Miguel Garcia or Janine Carrao, Saturday May 17th, in Flagstaff at the MBAA mountain bike finals. Both Miguel and Janine are Swiss members.

Option 3: Donate directly to me, Sunday morning May 25th during this months Silent South Mountain Sunday! 5:30am to 11:00am. I will be set up under the Swiss American EZ up on the corner of Mineral and Central (last road before you enter South Mountain Preserve). I can not collect donations on preserve property so, I’ll have to risk it on the street corner.

Option 4: Profit from the Charles Schwab Dash For Cash/Swiss Crit will be donated to Craig and his family. Please check out our race coming up this June and support Craig by racing your bike! More information can be found on the Swiss website: www.swissamericanracing.org

Thanks for reading. Please help to spread the word. If you are unable to contribute, a short prayer for William would be appreciated as well!
